CANNONBALL MEMORIAL
in DeRivera Park
|
 The original burial site of the 3 American & 3 British officers killed during the Battle of Lake Erie. The remains were
removed in 1913 during the celebration of the Perry Centennial and placed in the rotunda of the Perry Memorial. |

Our friends on Middle Bass Island often have been heard to complain about the number of heavy artillery pointed in their direction from the downtown waterfront. These cannons are the same type used during the
War of 1812. Originally on wooden armaments. |

DOUGHBOY STATUE |
A tribute to the soldiers from Put-in-Bay who gave their lives in the service of their country. This World War I "Doughboy" stands guard over the western lawn of DeRivera Park in downtown Put-in-Bay. |
SUNDAY AFTERNOON
ANTIQUE CAR PARADE
|
Sure to put a smile on anyone's face is the weekly Sunday Afternoon Antique Car Parade held about 2 pm each Sunday. As many as 80 vehicles have participated in a single parade.
There are more than 100 different
vintage cars on the island. |

I-LYA COMMODORES MEMORIAL IN PARK
|
A memorial to past Commodores of the Inter-Lake Yachting Association who led the Great Lakes organization over the past 122 years. This year's I-LYA Commodore is
Jim Dupre. The memorial is located
in DeRivera Park on the waterfront near Hartford Avenue.
2007 marks the 112th Regatta at Put-in-Bay. |

DeRIVERA PARK

Jose DeRivera was a Spanish merchant who visited and fell in love with the Lake Erie Islands in the mid 1800's. He donated and deeded
2.5 acres of prime downtown real estate to the island's

FIRST SCHOOL
ON PUT-IN-BAY

Put-in-Bay's first school has been restored and still stands on Thompson Road between Langram Road and Put-in-Bay Road on a quiet residential property. The
island's current school has about 100 students in
grades K-12. Class size averages 10 with a high of 15, low of 1. |

SUMMER BIOLOGY LAB
|
The Ohio State University's Theodore Franz Stone Laboratory conducts biology classes during the summer session. Also available to school groups. Located on tiny Gibraltar Island in the downtown harbor.
Visitation is by invitation. Open House September 18th. |

LAKE ERIE ISLANDS
BROWNS BACKERS |
Put-in-Bay has its own chapter of the Lake Erie Islands Browns Backers. Most meetings are held at the Skyway Lounge during the sports season. A non-profit organization, money generated by the group is
donated to scholarship programs, the Cleveland
Browns Foundation for Kids and charities. Go Brownies! |

GLACIER GROOVES
AT SOUTH BASS ISLAND
STATE PARK |
A small out-cropping of bedrock carved out by giant glaciers that covered the Great Lakes during the Ice Age can be seen at the
South Bass Island State Park. A sign stating "Glacier Grooves" marks the
spot in the camping area of the park. |

TOWN HALL |
The Put-in-Bay Town Hall is the center of the island community's government and the site of many community activities. Village Council meets here, the Put-in-Bay Police Department is located in the basement.

DOWNTOWN DEPOT |
The downtown Depot is located on the corner of Delaware and Toledo avenues. The Island Tour Train runs out of the Depot
and tickets can be purchased here for the narrated tour. Miller Boat Line passengers can also
ride the downtown bus to the Depot for $2. |

LIME KILN |
This
old lime kiln is located at the Miller Boat Line's "Lime
Kiln" Dock on Put-in-Bay. The old kilns were used in the
late 1800's to produce a quick lime powder for making mortar for stone
structures. Fire and limestone, a soft rock, when mixed made the lime powder. |

CLUB SWIM & SAIL |
The Put-in-Bay Yacht Club Swim & Sail Program is a non-profit organization formed to help youngsters learn how to swim and sail. Lessons are given at the yacht club each summer season. Contact the

SOUTH BASS ISLAND
LIGHTHOUSE |
The South Bass Island Lighthouse is owned by The Ohio State University and
opened for tours this summer on June 23. The lens from this island landmark can be seen at the Lake Erie Islands Historical
Society Museum, downtown
Put-in-Bay. The grounds are open daily for
photographs and a tour schedule is posted at the site. |

SHIP TO SHORE
HISTORICAL MARKER |
Dr. Lee deForest made the first ship to shore radio transmission to his assistant stationed on Fox's Dock on July 11, 1907. deForest was transmitting race results from the annual I-LYA Regatta.
His creation of the vacuum tube launched the broadcast radio industry. |
